Thank you for your interest in the Kiddie Cornerstone Fund at Cornerstone VNA. The fund was established in 2016 by Archana Bhargava, MD, Hematologist Oncologist at the Frisbie Center for Cancer Care at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NH. Dr. Bhargava, who is also a Cornerstone VNA Board Member, identified a need for the fund when she discovered that the pediatric nurses at Cornerstone VNA were generously purchasing small gifts for their patients, especially patients with chronic illnesses. Recognizing the nurse’s personal contributions, Dr. Bhargava approached the Board and Staff at Cornerstone VNA to establish a special fund for pediatric patients as well as for parents with newborns and their siblings.
Funding will be used to purchase gifts such as stickers, coloring books and crayons, stuffed animals, bubbles or other items to help brighten their day. Parents with newborns will also benefit from receiving small gifts, such as bibs, washcloths and cold/hot packs. And finally, siblings of newborns will be excited to receive a small toy or activity book that they can use while our nurse visits with mom, dad and baby.
Throughout the year, our nurses may identify a family (or families) who are unable to afford gifts for their children during the holiday season. This is where Kiddie Cornerstone steps in and a special donation drive may be organized in collaboration with a local business to help families in need. Gas cards may be distributed to families as well to help with travel expenses to and from the hospital for medical appointments (such as Boston area hospitals, Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, etc.).
Through this fundraising initiative, we welcome local schools and businesses to get involved by helping us collect toys that can be given to our chronically ill patients. We hope you will consider making a donation or in-kind contribution to our Kiddie Cornerstone Fund to help our pediatric nurses bring smiles to their smallest patients to help promote hope and healing at home.
