Cornerstone VNA Recognizes American Heart Month

Cornerstone VNA wants women to know that heart disease and stroke kills 1 in 3 women each year! According to the American Heart Association, heart disease, also called cardiovascular or coronary heart disease, kills more women each year than all forms of cancer combined. Go Red for Women and the American Heart Association (AHA) strongly believe that learning about heart disease and stroke is the best way to prevent disability and death. That’s why research is of paramount importance, and why the AHA is on a mission to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans. Ten years ago, women only thought of heart disease as a man’s disease. That’s why AHA launched Go Red for Women, which aims to the lives of our mothers, sisters, daughters and friends. Out of this, National Wear Red Day was born. Since 2003, a red dress has been the national symbol of commitment to take swift action against heart disease and stroke in women. Today, millions of Americans wear red, not just on Go Red for Women Day but the entire month of February, to raise awareness of the need to prevent heart disease and stroke!

Cornerstone VNA strives to enhance the health of the community by offering clinics for health screenings, immunizations and education and providing people with the resources to live a healthier and more vibrant life. Community health and wellness education as well as flu clinics are conducted monthly throughout the year in all service areas offering health screenings with blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol and weight checks as well as medication counseling. The Community Care program has expanded this past year, increasing adult health clinics by 50% and now offers individuals diet and nutrition counseling along with the services of a Certified Health Coach. For more information about health screening clinics in your area contact 1-800-691-1133.
